Aran
Aran weight yarns, slightly thicker than double knitting yarns and call for a 4.5mm or 5mm needle. Similar to double knitting yarns, aran weight yarns will knit to any pattern which calls for an aran weight yarn but it is always worth doing a tension square to be absolutely sure and you may need to use a size larger or smaller to get the tension right. As a rule, yarns with a large percentage of cotton knit up larger, so those are the ones to watch!
